THE SCIENCE OF RACING
Teachers, get your engines revving! On June 27-29, Shell and Pennzoil will host the Shell and Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston, with world class drivers zooming over 180 miles per hour around Reliant Astrodome and Reliant Stadium.
As the only titled motorsports sponsorship in the U.S., Shell will have the opportunity to showcase innovation and technology for road transport, both on and off the race track, in an impactful way with relevant audiences.
As partners to Shell education efforts, the NEED Project is recruiting area middle and high school science teachers to participate in a Shell sponsored “Science of Racing” STEM professional development training on June 27th. The training will begin with a workshop and continue with interactive exhibits and an opportunity to view qualifying races at Reliant Park that afternoon. Hands-on materials and activities to take back to the classroom will highlight the fuels of auto racing, polymers in auto racing, and the science of motors and generators.
What’s provided?: Continental breakfast, lunch, parking (ample parking in the open lot at the Shell Information Center), tickets to day-of events, and transportation to and from Reliant Park for hands-on activities, viewing exhibits and preliminary races.
Why attend?: This STEM workshop provides teachers with hands-on experience with all aspects of racing: material science, fuels, electronics, engines, and more. Teachers will receive copies of the Science of Racing curriculum. All participants will be entered into a raffle during the workshop to receive valuable prizes, including an all-expenses paid trip to the NEED Energy Conference for Educators in Savannah, GA July 20-24 and Shell Gift Cards!
Important Note: Valid ID required for entry at the gate entrance to the parking lot and the receptionist desk of the building.
