NEED Membership
The
NEED Project's network consists of over 55,000 classrooms nationwide
who use NEED's annually up-dated curriculum materials. Educators
are NEED members in order to receive updated curriculum materials,
participate in workshops and inservices, and to connect to the
NEED network. Membership is $35.00. In many states and localities,
membership is sponsored for interested teachers by federal or
state energy agencies and other NEED corporate sponsors.
Any educator
can become a 2007-2008 NEED Member and become part of a dynamic
network of schools across the nation participating in innovative
energy education programs. Membership includes a NEED Membership/Curriculum
Packet, a subscription to Energy Exchange newsletter, access to
NEED conferences, workshops and the Youth Awards Program, and
the opportunity to design a classroom program by ordering basic
curriculum units and free supplemental materials using the NEED Catalog
included in the Membership and Curriculum Packet. Additional materials are found
on-line in the Curriculum Guides and Activities section of this

2007-2008 NEED Membership and Curriculum Packet includes:
ENERGY INFOBOOKS
NEED’s energy infobooks are provided in primary (grades K-4),
elementary (grades 4-5) intermediate (grades 4-8), and secondary
(grades 7-12) versions. The booklets provide resource information
on the sources of energy, electricity, consumption, as well as general
energy information. The infobooks are used in the classroom as a
resource for many NEED activities and class sets can be ordered.
The booklets are revised each year to provide the most complete,
up-to-date information. All four reading levels are provided in
the NEED Membership/Energy Curriculum Kit.
BLUEPRINT FOR SUCCESS
The Blueprint is designed to help NEED members develop an effective
energy education program. This booklet provides basic units and
sample lesson plans for all grade levels and instructions to implement
an energy unit in the classroom. Included in the Blueprint for Success
booklet are brief descriptions of all NEED materials with grade
levels, as well as Pre and Post Energy Polls and an Energy Unit
Exam as evaluation tools.
GAMES & ICEBREAKERS
This booklet contains introductory energy activities and games,
including Electric Connections, Energy Chants, Bumper Stumpers,
Energy Bingo, and America’s Most Wanted Energy Wasters. New
activities added for 2006-2007!
PROJECTS &
ACTIVITIES
This booklet includes a workplan and suggestions for energy outreach
activities to other classes, schools, families, and communities,
as well as the Youth Awards Guide and application form.
NEED CATALOG
of MATERIALS
The 2007-2008 catalog contains many new items
developed this past year. NEED also posts many items on the website
for all educators to use for classroom purposes.
