Mission: Inspire leadership and energy innovation in Ohio students and teachers.
Ohio Energy Project (OEP) is committed to supporting teachers and students with innovative science curriculum, materials and programs that spark curiosity about energy. This school year took OEP across the Buckeye State, transforming the way Ohioans think about energy. Incorporating NEED curriculum, OEP focused on three primary goals for the 2018-19 school year:

Innovative Education
Enduring Relationships
Transformative Leadership

Student Programs:
OEP conducted Youth Leadership Summits and Energy Workshops/Fairs across Ohio to educate teachers and students about the science of energy and energy-related issues. Over 800 seventh-twelfth graders were trained at Youth Leadership Summits implementing OEP’s “Kids Teaching Kids” philosophy. These student leaders facilitated hands-on explorations and carnival games for over 2,600 elementary students at Energy Workshops.

Energy Efficiency:
OEP’s Energy Efficiency Education Program empowered students and teachers to conserve energy at home using energy efficiency kits, resulting in a significant energy savings across the state. This program has been extremely successful with 626 classrooms teaching the science of energy and 43,725 students receiving energy efficiency kits this year. “Kids Teaching Families” takes leadership to a new level, allowing students to impact their families with energy efficient choices. Additionally, OEP distributed over 4,000 CFL’s to Ohio students. Ohio families achieved potential energy savings of 22,075 mega-watt hours.

Professional Development:
Empowering Ohio educators, OEP’s greatest resource, through professional development opportunities is foundational to energy education in Ohio. OEP has focused on grade level specific workshops for 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 9th grade providing educators with curriculum and teaching kits to meet Ohio’s Learning Standards. The Energy Sources Tour continues to be a popular event. Through partnerships with Ohio energy businesses and university research facilities, teachers get to see behind-the-scenes at energy sites and learn directly from energy industry professionals. Over 2,100 teachers participated in an OEP professional workshops throughout the school year.
