YOUTH ENERGY CONFERENCE & AWARDS
NEED encourages and rewards student leadership and innovation by sponsoring a Youth Awards Program for Energy Achievement. Schools participating in NEED’s programs are invited to submit digital portfolios of their energy activities (submission is free!). Exceptional teachers and students are recognized for their efforts at the state and national level. In a non-pandemic year, schools would have been invited to attend NEED’s Youth Energy Conference and Awards held each June in Washington, DC. Since it was our 40th anniversary, and students had worked so hard on their projects throughout the academic year, we knew we had to find a way to celebrate their work, even if it could not be in person. NEED student interns and youth staff planned a series of live virtual events from hands-on energy challenges in small groups, virtual tours of Washington, D.C., contests, games, guest speakers and of course, the annual awards ceremony. Supplies and fun Youth Awards swag was sent to students and teachers homes ahead of time.
Phillips 66 and the American Electric Power Foundation for their generous sponsorship.
We always want to see the good work students are doing, and that is even more true now when it's harder to collaborate in the virtual setting. Learn more about submitting a project and take a peek at past projects, which cover a wide range of energy topics and provide a great starting point if you need some inspiration.
