Getting students excited about science and prepared for the future of energy as a customer and consumer is a step OPPD is taking to lead the way we power the future…their future. Educators are invited to participate in energy education workshops to receive a hands-on, STEM kit for their classroom. This kit will get students learning about the Science of Energy, working with their peers and learning how energy and OPPD are a part of their everyday lives.
Who Should Attend?
Open to all 3rd – 5th grade teachers in the OPPD service area.
All registrants will be sent a hands-on workshop materials kit in advance of the online session.

Learn more about the forms of energy while experimenting with the NEED Project’s Science of Energy kit.

After learning about the forms of energy, discover how the different energy sources contribute to the generation of electricity locally.
11:00 a.m. Introduction to Energy Efficiency and Conservation by OPPD
How do you use energy in your daily life at school? Learn how energy is consumed and easy steps you and your students can take to reduce energy use at home and at school. Introduce Energy House Challenge.

12:00 p.m. OPPD Energy Education and Home Energy Efficiency Resources
12:15 p.m. Energy House, Air infiltration and Energy Audit Tools
Learn about efficiency, conservation, and economic returns by using various materials to insulate a cardboard house and then test its efficiency, air infiltration in doors and windows and an introduction to the tools provided in the NEED Efficiency and Conservation kits to explore energy use at home and at school.
