Pre-Workshop Independent Work: Home Energy Audit
Using the Kilowatt meter provided teachers will audit 5 appliances in their home and populate data on a shareable google document. Data populated into google documents.

Meet your fellow participants and the sponsors of today’s workshop. Review goals and objectives for the workshop and begin planning ways to use the NEED materials and training in your school. Learn more about the forms of energy while experimenting with the NEED Project’s Science of Energy kit. Kits will be made available to participating teachers.

4:25 p.m. Candy Collector and Forms and Sources
This fun activity will introduce students to the terms “renewable” and “nonrenewable”. Get a closer look at how long energy sources will last when using only nonrenewable sources, and when incorporating renewable sources of energy.

The activities will help incorporate energy efficiency into a language arts component with group-based collaboration.
4:00 p.m. Insulation Investigation
This activity will explore thermal energy transfer and introduce students to conduction, convection, radiation, and insulation.
4:30 p.m. Quick Break
4:35 p.m. Energy Efficiency Measures
Learn about items included in the home energy conservation kit. Review preworkshop kilowatt meter investigation.
5:05 p.m. National Fuel Home Kit Program for Students
Explore the components included with a class-set of 30 home energy efficiency kits for students to take home, install with their families, and start saving energy.
5:30 p.m. Wrap Up – Post-test and evaluation, Q&A
