Join us for the 41st Annual Youth Energy Conference and Awards.

Save the Date: The Youth Energy Conference & Awards is on for 2021!  This year’s event will be hosted in a hybrid fashion to include all of our students.  Join virtual sessions or be with us in Washington DC June 25th – 27th.  You must submit a Youth Awards project to participate in the Youth Energy Conference & Awards.  Youth Awards projects are due April 15th.

The Youth Energy Conference and Awards brings together students and teachers from around the country who are passionate about energy education.  The event includes educational sessions, social events, the opportunity to tour Washington D.C., and recognition for the work done throughout the school year.

Two Ways to Participate – Virtual or In Person!

In Person

 NEED invites a limited number of teacher and student participants to Washington D.C. to expand their energy knowledge, meet like-minded students, and visit the nation’s capital.  In-person registration is open to all 2021 and 2020 project participants.

 Register your group to attend in-person by May 24th.

Single Occupancy Registration

Attendee will have an individual hotel room. Teachers/Group Leader will provide roomlist to NEED.

Double Occupancy Registration

Two people sharing one hotel room.  Both occupants MUST be registered for the conference.  NEED will not pair individuals.  Teachers/Group Leader will provide roomlist to NEED.

Three/four people sharing one hotel room.  All occupants MUST be registered for the conference.  NEED will not pair individuals.  Teachers/Group Leader will provide roomlist to NEED.

1:30 pm – 2:30 pm Youth Awards for Energy Achievement – 41st Annual Awards Ceremony

For both virtual and in-person attendees.  Hear from an inspirational speaker,  announcement of award winners, and a look back at the year.  Winners from the weekend activities announced.

 

Conference Covid-19 Protocol

  • Participants must be masked at all program events except when actively eating or drinking.
  • All program staff has been fully vaccinated and will be masked at all program events.
  • All events will be held in grade-level pods of no more than 60 people. Participants will return to the same pod for all in-person events.
  • Social distancing will be in place at all events.
  • Temperature checks will be performed each morning.
  • Only registered program participants will be permitted in guest rooms.
  • Each attending group should have a procedure in place if a participant feels unwell during your trip. NEED will be unable to chaperone quarantined participants.
  • All attendees will be required to follow all local Covid-19 requirements. If local requirements differ from those provided by NEED, the stricter of the two will be implemented.

 Hyatt Covid-19 Protocol

  • High touch surfaces cleaned and disinfected using hospital grade products on a two hour rotation from 6am – 10pm. Including but not limited to:
    • Public entrance / exit door handles and push plates
    • Front Desk and Concierge surface tops
    • Escalator handrails
    • Elevator landing call buttons, cab control buttons, and interior handrails
    • Public restroom door handles and push plates
  • Temperature and wellbeing checks of all Hyatt staff at beginning of each shift. Refraining from coming to work if feeling unwell.
  • Proper hygiene practices for Hyatt staff including frequent handwashing, use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer, and protective masks and gloves worn by appropriate hotel staff.
  • Prominently placed hand sanitizer stations throughout hotel public spaces and entrances.
  • Physical distancing guidance as appropriate throughout hotel, including lobbies, bar and restaurant, fitness center, elevator landings, and event and meeting spaces.
  • Valet Parking team to utilize gloves in all instances and sanitize steering wheel, shift levers, etc. upon receipt of vehicle from guest.
  • Hotel Shuttle drivers to utilize gloves in all instances. Shuttles sanitized after each trip.
  • Plexiglass shields at Front Desk with Hyatt staff in masks and gloves.
  • Rearranged furniture in public space to ensure free flowing foot traffic with ample walkways to allow for physical distancing.
  • Physical distancing guidance as appropriate throughout hotel, including lobbies, bar and restaurant, fitness center, elevator landings, and event and meeting spaces.
  • Guest room amenities have been reimagined to limit touch points with single use items.
  • Optional room cleaning service during stays. Room to be vacant during service.
  • Increased frequency of cleaning of guest room high touch surfaces, including but not limited to:
    • Dressers & End Table Tops, Handles, and Pulls
    • TV and Remote Controls
    • In Room Safe Control Pad
    • Bathroom Fixtures and Faucets
  • Increased frequency of cleaning in guest room adjacent areas (hallways, elevator landings, etc.) using hospital grade disinfectants.
  • Hotel’s new Hygiene and Wellbeing Manager will advise on and ensure adherence to these guidelines and protocols.
  • Suspension of Self-Serve Buffets.
  • Adjustments of seating capacity as mandated by Commonwealth of Virginia and Arlington County Health Department regulations.
  • Implementation of single use menus printed on recyclable paper.
  • Increased distance between tables to ensure wide walkways and ease of movement.
  • Touch free hand sanitizing stations installed at all food & beverage outlets.
  • Appropriate PPE worn by culinary team during food preparation and all service staff during service.
  • Re-sanitation of kitchens scheduled on a regular basis throughout the day.
  • Meeting room layouts will be individually tailored to each group’s needs to ensure best learning, quality of experience, and optimal physical distancing.
  • Hotel staff to wear masks and gloves while setting and serving events.
  • Prepacked ‘grab and go’ style menus.
  • Buffets served by attendants and protected with sneeze guards.
  • Pitchers of ice water replaced by water coolers.

Many DC attractions now require timed tickets to attend.
