NEED is adding new energy workshops all the time. Want to attend? Check out our calendar to find a workshop near you!
NEED has partnered with National Fuel to offer a National Fuel Energy Efficiency Education Program to provide and promote energy and energy conservation to schools in the National Fuel service area. All curriculum modules are aligned to New York standards and support Common Core and the Next Generation Science Standards, if adopted. This program provides teacher training workshops, hands-on classroom curriculum and kits, and the opportunity to share energy conservation practices at home with their families and the National Fuel Home Energy Efficiency Kits.
As part of National Fuel's Conservation Incentive Program which encourages energy efficiency and conservation at home, students are learning about energy and climate change in class and taking those lessons home.
Visit National Fuel's Green Team page for more information!
Previous Workshop Themes:
Science of Buildings: Teachers learn how to turn their students into Building Scientists. Students discover how heat transfers and find out how to control heat loss/gain by designing and testing an energy efficient house. Students learn how their school and homes use energy and how to reduce energy consumption through this hands-on program correlated to NYS Learning Standards.
Climate Detectives: Teachers learn hands-on ways to teach their students about the energy-climate connection. Students learn about the science of climate change and how to reduce energy consumption through this hands-on program correlated to New York’s Learning Standards. Attendees receive hands-on kits and materials and participating students receive take-home energy conservation kits.
Alternative Transportation Fuels: Teacher's engage in hands-on stations that teach about the forms of energy and energy transformations through the ways we use our transportation fuels. Attendees will view actual alternative fuel vehicles and learn advantages and disadvantages of conventional and alternative transportation fuels. Teachers will learn about hydrogen as a transportation fuel and participate in hands-on stations about electrolysis, element modeling, and model a fuel cell car.
Science of Energy: Teachers will be introduced to NEED’s Science of Energy Kit and Curriculum. Using Science of Energy Kits, students will conduct experiments to learn about forms of energy and energy transformations and then find out how their school and homes use energy. They’ll use this knowledge to reduce their energy consumption through this program correlated to New York’s Learning Standards. Attendees receive hands-on kits and materials and participating students receive take-home energy conservation kits.
