AGENDA

8:30 a.m. Registration
Pick up NEED materials and conference supplies. Continental breakfast will be served. NEED curriculum kits are sponsored for each teacher attending the workshop. Packets include supplemental classroom materials, Energy Infobooks at 3 grade levels, and much more! Complete a pre-workshop assessment.
8:45 a.m. Welcome and Introductions
Meet your fellow participants and the sponsors of today’s workshop. Review goals and objectives for the workshop and begin planning ways to use the NEED materials and training in your school. Energy Bingo.
9:00 a.m. Forms and Sources of Energy
9:30 a.m. The Science of Energy
Learn more about the forms of energy while experimenting with the NEED Project’s
Science of Energy kit. Kits will be made available to participating teachers.
10:45 a.m. Baseload Balance
Learn about how Regional Transmission Organizations work to bring to bring electricity made using the least expensive fuels onto the grid to meet ever changing demand.
11:00 a.m. Stock it Up
During peak demand times, RTOs have to resort to using very expensive supply to meet demand, raising prices for everyone. Deploying more storage can help lower or shift the peak, making electricity more affordable for all. Learn about storage options being deployed to help lower the peak.
11:30 a.m. Energy Careers Guess Who
Play a game to learn more about careers in energy. This game can be adapted to cover a wide variety of careers or other topic.
12:00 p.m. Lunch
1:00 p.m. Hands on Energy Activities
Solar –With grade band groups, explore activities to help meet your standards related to energy transformations.
• Primary: Solar Oven & Solar Balloon
• Elementary: Solar Bugs
• Intermediate: Passive Solar House
• Secondary: Measuring Voltage and Current in Circuits Connected using Breadboards
Efficiency & Conservation – Conducting School and Home Energy Audits
• Explore Audit Tools
• Conducting Energy Audits
2:15 p.m. Energy Carnival
2:30 p.m. School Energy Teams and Community Education
3:00 p.m. Explore the Website, Q&A, Post Assessment and Evaluations
