WHO IS THE NEED PROJECT?
The NEED Project designs and delivers teacher-tested educational materials, evaluation techniques and tools, recognition of student achievement, and professional development for educators. NEED materials and training programs provide comprehensive, objective information about the scientific concepts of energy and the sources of energy – their use and their impact on the environment, the economy and society.

Meet your fellow participants and the sponsors of today’s workshop. Review goals and objectives for the workshop and begin planning ways to use the NEED materials and training in your school. Review Zoom details and meet fellow participants in Break-Out Sessions.
9:30 a.m. The Science of Energy
Learn more about the forms of energy while experimenting with the NEED Project’s Science of Energy kit. Kits will be made available to participating teachers.
11:00 a.m. Candy Collector
After learning about the forms of energy, we will study the sources of energy: What are they? Where do they come from? And how do we use each of the 10 sources of energy? Discover how the different energy sources contribute to the generation of electricity.
11:30 a.m. Massachusetts Electric Connection
After learning about the forms of energy, discover how the different energy sources contribute to the generation of electricity in Massachusetts. Check out the Massachusetts numbers for all energy use too.
12:00 p.m. Intro to Energy Efficiency and Conservation and Tool Exploration
How do you use energy in your daily life at school? Learn how energy is consumed and easy steps you and your students can take to reduce energy use at home and at school.
12:30 p.m. Wellness Break
1:00 p.m. Energy House Challenge
Introduce Energy House Challenge
2:30 p.m. Conservation in the Round
This quick lesson allows participants to understand their personal energy use and to better conserve energy.
