This past Friday (February 10, 2023),  NEED provided an engaging energy education workshop in San Pedro, CA with 33 K-12 classroom teachers and educators from local Boys and Girls Clubs.  This workshop was sponsored by Phillips 66.

The workshop was held in the offices of Sharefest on the 7th floor of the historic San Pedro Municipal Building near the Maritime Museum and Battleship Iowa. Sharefest provided a unique workshop space, as their seventh floor was originally a women’s prison and the heave bars are still at each window!

The workshop included presentations from Phillips 66 guest speakers, including Tim Seidel (General Manager), Ruben Ybarra (Health/Safety/Emergency Response Supervisor), and Manuel Perez (Operations Training Coordinator).  Tim discussed the company’s history and changes in the industry and Manual described the range of career opportunities at Phillips 66.

Teachers really enjoyed NEED’s hands-on activities, such as Energy Bingo, the Science of Energy, Electric Connections and more! Everyone had an energy fun-filled day and every teacher will receive a NEED Science of Energy kit, thanks to the sponsorship of Phillips 66.  All NEED curriculum is available for free PDF download or viewable as an e-publication at shop.need.org.
